đź’Ą What Was Meant to Be a Holiday Turned Into a Nightmare

What began as a fun Memorial Day outing quickly turned into a scene of terror when a boat carrying 13 people exploded near the New River Triangle in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, around 5:45 p.m. on May 26.

Among the injured were two young children, ages 5 and 7 — both now recovering in fair condition. Eleven people in total were hurt in the explosion, which erupted while the vessel was anchored near a popular sandbar by the Lauderdale Yacht Club.

🚨 Witnesses Describe a Scene of Chaos and Courage

“I heard a loud explosion. I saw people jump into the water — it was terrifying,” said Christopher Blackwood, who was fishing nearby when the blast happened. “Something inside exploded. You’ve got to be safe out there.”

âš“ “Good Samaritans Jumped In”

Bystanders didn’t hesitate. Strangers rushed in to help, pulling survivors from the water before emergency crews arrived. One lucky survivor? A dog aboard the boat — who was rescued and is doing fine, officials confirmed.

🏥 The Injured: What We Know So Far

  • 11 injured, including 2 children

  • Victims initially treated at Broward Health Medical Center

  • Some transferred to Jackson Memorial’s Burn Unit

  • 8 people now in good condition, officials say

  • Both children are stable and recovering

“It could’ve been much worse,” said Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesperson Frank Guzman. “We’re just grateful lives were saved.”

🎥 Video Shows Intense Rescue Response

Footage shared by the U.S. Coast Guard shows flashing lights and multiple agencies racing to the scene. The coordinated effort included fire boats, rescue teams, and EMS transporting victims to hospitals within minutes.

“Salvage is being arranged,” the Coast Guard tweeted, confirming that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is now leading the investigation.

🔍 What Caused the Explosion?

Right now, the cause remains unknown.

“It’s too soon to know how this happened,” said Guzman. “We have investigators on site and will release more as we learn it.”

Safety concerns over fuel vapor are already being discussed, as some eyewitnesses claimed to have seen a gas cloud before the explosion.

đź’¬ Final Thoughts: A Sobering Reminder

On a day meant to honor the fallen, this tragedy served as a stark reminder of how fragile life can be — even in moments of joy.

Keep the victims and their families in your thoughts. Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight.

🙏 Stay safe. Stay aware.
