On a busy Friday evening in Dubai Marina, fear spread quickly after a fire broke out in a 67-storey residential tower, forcing nearly 4,000 residents to evacuate.
The first moments were confusing. Some people noticed smoke in hallways, while others only realized something was wrong when they saw fire engines outside. Several residents said alarms did not sound. “We thought it was just cooking smoke — until security told us to leave,” said one tenant from the 24th floor.
As smoke thickened in stairwells, many residents used elevators under the direction of building staff and Dubai Civil Defence officers. Nearby towers were also cleared as haze drifted across the Marina.
Despite the chaos, witnesses praised emergency crews for their calm and rapid response. Hotels offered temporary shelter, and many families stayed with friends.
Authorities are investigating reports of possible alarm malfunctions. For most residents, relief outweighed everything else. “Belongings can be replaced,” one evacuee said. “Lives cannot.”
