Taylor Swift and Blake Lively are reportedly back on good terms after a rough patch in their friendship—tied to Blake’s legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
The pop star and the actress, who were once famously close, hadn’t been spotted together in months. Sources say their friendship cooled as a result of Blake’s ongoing legal dispute with Baldoni—one Swift was unwillingly pulled into.
Back in December, Blake, 37, filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Baldoni, 41. In response, Baldoni hit back with a $400 million countersuit, accusing both Blake and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, of trying to ruin his career and reputation.
Taylor was unexpectedly named in Justin’s legal filings, something insiders say left her “annoyed” and uncomfortable. She reportedly didn’t want any part of the feud but got dragged in after Baldoni’s legal team referenced an instance where she was seen at Blake’s home—using the visit as part of an intimidation narrative.
According to the filings, Justin claimed that Blake brought Taylor to a rooftop meeting about script changes in an attempt to intimidate him with her star power. However, sources close to Swift say she had no idea the meeting was happening and was just there to hang out with her friend.
“This was the first time Taylor ever met Justin. She didn’t even know who he was,” a source told the Daily Mail. “She was just being her usual polite self.”
Justin’s lawsuit also cited alleged texts from Blake where she referred to Taylor as one of her “dragons,” a Game of Thrones reference that caught attention.
Though Swift reportedly took a step back during the early stages of the scandal, a source tells NewsNation that the friends have since reconciled and are “talking again.”
One insider noted that Blake was just as distressed about Taylor being pulled into the legal mess: “Baldoni’s legal team plays hardball. The idea of Taylor having to go through that was horrifying to Blake.”
If the lawsuit heads to trial, it’s possible Taylor could be called to testify. While Swift has stayed silent publicly, her involvement—or lack thereof—could still become a point of interest.
Some fans feel Swift should have spoken out in support of Blake, while others understand her decision to keep her distance. “If Taylor doesn’t believe Blake, that’s going to be a huge piece of Baldoni’s defense,” a source said.
Regardless of how things unfold in court, the longtime friends seem to be back on good terms, proving once again that even A-list friendships can weather the storm.
