Passenger Stops To Help A Hairless Soul Camping Outside Metro Station

It was a typical afternoon in early January when Suzette Hall, founder of Loganโ€™s Legacy 29, received a message that stopped her in her tracks. A Good Samaritan boarding a nearby train spotted a tarp on the metro stationโ€™s stairs โ€” and someone helpless and hairless was sleeping atop it.

The pink, wrinkly pup barely budged when the passenger neared her โ€” she seemed to have been living there a while and was used to people passing her by. But the Good Samaritan refused to ignore her.

โ€œ[She was] eating trash off the streets [and] sleeping by the metro on the stairs,โ€ Hall wrote on Facebook.

As soon as Hall received the message, she and her volunteers formulated a plan to save the dog, later named Sadie Rose. Arturo Flores, the volunteer closest to the train station, rushed to the scene. But by the time he arrived, the sun had gone down and Sadie had ventured off her steps and into the Jack In The Box drive-thru across the street.

โ€œ[He] tried so hard to get her, but she disappeared,โ€ Hall wrote.

Sadly, Flores couldnโ€™t find Sadie Rose that night, so Hall arrived early the following morning to try again.

โ€œThis morning, she was nowhere [to be found],โ€ Hall wrote, โ€œSuddenly, there she was, walking so [slowly], exhausted and hungry โ€ฆโ€

Hall exited her car quietly, rushing to set as many humane dog traps as possible in the area without scaring Sadie Rose away. She soon returned to her car and watched as Sadie Rose walked up to her traps, lured by the delicious food inside, only to suddenly dart in the other direction.

โ€œEach time she would almost go into my trap, a person would show up and scare her away,โ€ Hall wrote. โ€œAnd [then] she would go [cross] the street, so many times, almost getting hit by a car.โ€

Then, Sadie Rose disappeared again. Hall scoured the area, driving up and down each neighboring street in search of the pup. Hours passed, and the dedicated rescuer almost gave up for the night, until she decided to try Sadie Roseโ€™s second favorite hiding spot one more time.

โ€œI literally prayed and told God, โ€˜Iโ€™m going to drive by Jack In The Box one more time,’ and there she was, so tired [and] walking so [slowly],โ€ Hall wrote. โ€œ[It was] a total miracle.โ€

With Sadie Rose finally in sight, Hall knew she needed to act quickly. She turned down the street and watched the pup enter someoneโ€™s yard. The rescuer swiftly parked her car, grabbed her trusty baby gates and blocked off the yardโ€™s exit points.

With the help of the unsuspecting homeowner, Hall successfully cornered the dog and lured her into a trap. As soon as Sadie Rose entered the trap, she knew she could finally let her guard down.

โ€œShe literally started [falling] asleep,โ€ Hall wrote. โ€œShe knew her [bad] days were behind her.โ€

Hall rushed Sadie Rose to the vet, where the poor girl was diagnosed with a severe case of mange. The vet team promptly started her on a treatment plan, which unfortunately required her to be isolated from others due to being so contagious. Still, Sadie Roseโ€™s loving personality shone through.

โ€œShe is absolutely beautiful and the most lovable girl I have ever met,โ€ Hall wrote on Facebook. โ€œShe matters so much, and I wonโ€™t give up [on] her.โ€

Sadie Roseโ€™s team of cheerleaders grew each day, as everyone who cared for her instantly fell in love. Thanks to them, after over a month of rigorous treatment, the pup was finally cleared to go to foster care โ€” and the sweetest family was more than ready to receive her.

The sweet girl is still on the mend, with a few months left before her skin completely heals and her fur grows back in. Itโ€™ll be a while before sheโ€™s ready for adoption, but Sadie Rose is thriving in her foster home, and her foster mom, Karen de Grandmaison, couldnโ€™t love her more.

โ€œSitting outside this afternoon, enjoying the sun and breeze, I put her in an XL sweater when the sun goes down,โ€ de Grandmaison wrote in a poem, shared by Hall on Facebook. โ€œSkin getting better and hair starting to grow. She is a very happy dog.โ€
