They moved away without her 💔

Taylor Bullock was spending a quiet Saturday scrolling through local lost pet groups on Facebook when one post stopped her cold. A black-and-white dog was seen sitting on the porch of an empty house—waiting. She hadn’t moved in days, as if still hoping her family would come back.

“I kept refreshing the page for hours, hoping someone would say they were going to get her,” Bullock, who runs Happy Tails Animal Rescue, told The Dodo. “It was getting late and the skies were getting dark, so I finally said, ‘I need to go see if she’s still there.’”

When Bullock pulled up to the house, the dog was right where the photos showed her—sitting patiently, as if she belonged there.

The pup, who would later be named Rain, lit up when Bullock approached. She seemed relieved to have a friendly face nearby.

“She’s such a sweet dog,” Bullock said. “She cried and just wanted to sit in my lap while I was on the porch with her.”

Soon, another animal rescuer, Paula Ellis, joined Bullock, and they started talking to neighbors. That’s when they learned something heartbreaking: the family had moved out a month ago. Rain had likely been waiting ever since.

Despite being offered food and attention, Rain had only one focus—getting back inside her house.

“She kept going to the front door over and over,” Bullock said. “And every time someone touched the door handle, she’d jump up like she remembered exactly how it used to open.”

With a storm rolling in and no sign of anyone claiming her, Bullock gently coaxed Rain into her car and brought her home. That night, while thunder rumbled outside, Bullock gave Rain a bath, treated her wounds, and started her on vaccinations.

“She was filthy and had sores on her legs, paws, and back,” Bullock said. “She had serious separation anxiety, so after making sure the other pets were settled, I just laid on the couch with her all night.”

Rain was so anxious she couldn’t stop panting, but by morning, she was finally relaxed—sprawled out on her back, sleeping soundly in her rescuer’s arms.

Now, Rain is living with a foster family and learning to trust again. She still struggles with the trauma of being left behind, but she’s slowly opening up and settling into her new routine.

“She’s such a happy girl,” Bullock said. “She loves everyone—animals and people. What she needs now is a forever family that will give her the time, love, and companionship she deserves.”
