Tributes Pour In for 32-Year-Old Skydiver Jade Damarell After Tragic Parachuting Accident in the UK
Family, friends, and the skydiving community are mourning the tragic loss of Jade Damarell, a 32-year-old skydiver who died following a parachuting accident on April 27 in Shotton Colliery, County Durham, England.
Jade, originally from Kowloon, Hong Kong, and living in Caerphilly, South Wales, had completed over 400 jumps and was a well-respected member of the skydiving world. According to reports from The Telegraph, she crashed onto farmland during a jump. Authorities have confirmed there is no suspicion of foul play or equipment malfunction.
Durham Constabulary stated the incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a post-mortem exam conducted at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle confirmed the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
At a preliminary inquest hearing held on May 22, coroner’s officer Alexis Blighe told the court there was “no reason at all” to believe equipment failure played a role in Jade’s death.
In a moving statement, Jade’s parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Samuel, described their daughter as a “brilliant, beautiful, brave, and truly extraordinary person.”
“Jade lived life with energy, passion, and love,” they said. “She touched countless lives with her warmth and kindness. She was a bright, adventurous spirit who found freedom and purpose in skydiving, and she had recently begun training to earn her pilot’s license.”
The family added that Jade was admired professionally for her creativity and dedication to her work in marketing, and they expressed deep gratitude to the first responders, emergency services, and the global skydiving community for their support.
“We miss her beyond words,” they said. “But her light will live on in our family and all those who knew and loved her. Please respect our family’s privacy as we come to terms with this devastating loss.”
Sky-High Skydiving, the organization Jade was affiliated with, also released a statement expressing sorrow over the tragedy:
“This heartbreaking news has deeply affected everyone who knew her. Our thoughts are with her family and friends as they cope with this unimaginable loss. We ask for privacy and compassion for all who are grieving.”
A full inquest into Jade’s death is scheduled to begin on August 21.
