A 17-year-old girl from the Philippines, Mary Ann Regacho, went blind just hours after popping what she believed was a harmless bump on her nose.
Mary, who had recently given birth at age 16, initially assumed the bump was just a hormonal breakout. But as it grew and began to spread across her face, her vision started to deteriorate—fast.
She tried home remedies, hoping it would go away, but nothing worked. Now, Mary fears that the damage to her eyesight and face may be permanent.
Her husband, Albert Sales, works low-wage farming jobs that barely cover food and baby supplies. The young couple couldn’t afford to get medical help right away, and by the time Mary was able to go to the hospital a year later, they still didn’t have the money for proper treatment.
In a last-ditch effort, Albert reached out to the public for help, asking for donations to help cover her medical expenses, saying they’re struggling just to survive.
