Michigan rapper Dajua Blanding, known as Dank Demoss, is suing Lyft after a driver refused to pick her up—allegedly claiming she was too heavy for his car. The incident, which she recorded and shared online, shows the driver telling her she wouldn’t fit in the car and ultimately canceling the ride.
“I’ve ridden in smaller cars,” Blanding said, adding that the experience left her feeling humiliated. Her video went viral, sparking debate online. While some supported the driver, others called it outright discrimination.
Blanding’s lawsuit claims the driver locked his doors when he saw her, told her she might damage his tires, and refused service based on her size—a move her lawyers say violates Michigan’s anti-discrimination laws, which protect against weight-based bias.
Lyft responded, stating it “condemns all forms of discrimination,” and emphasized its commitment to respectful treatment for all riders.
The case is now gaining national attention, highlighting broader concerns around body discrimination and fairness in rideshare services.
