A devastating head-on crash between a van and a truck on the BR-251 highway near Grão Mogol, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, has left nine people dead and 12 others injured.
Initial reports suggest the truck veered into the opposite lane, likely due to slick roads and poor visibility from heavy rain and fog. The van was transporting 19 seasonal workers returning home to Ceará, but it wasn’t licensed for interstate travel.
Emergency crews worked through the night to rescue survivors. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash, as well as the vehicles’ conditions and any potential legal violations.
