As a frequent traveler and a plus-size passenger, I’ve learned how uncomfortable airplane seats can be. To avoid any issues, I always purchase two seats — one for myself, and one for extra space and comfort.
On a recent flight, I boarded, got settled, and buckled in. That’s when a woman walked up with her young child — and without asking, she sat her kid in the extra seat I paid for.
I politely explained that I had purchased both seats for personal reasons and would need her to move her child. She rolled her eyes and loudly called me selfish. Other passengers chimed in, saying, “It’s just a kid!”

Trying to stay calm, I asked the flight attendant for help and showed both of my boarding passes. I made it clear that if the situation wasn’t handled, I’d be filing a complaint for interference with a paid reservation.
The crew didn’t hesitate. After checking with the captain, the woman and her child were removed from the flight. Turns out, she had pulled this stunt before.
Once we were in the air, things were quiet. A few people apologized. Most didn’t.
But I was in my seat — both of them — with no regrets.
