Dog Found on the Brink of Death Makes an Incredible Comeback Thanks to Her Rescuer
It’s always tough to see animals suffering — but knowing there are people out there fighting to save them makes all the difference. One of those heroes is Eduardo Rodriguez, a dedicated animal rescuer from Granada, Spain. And his story with a dog named Barilla proves just how powerful love and persistence can be.
Eduardo has spent his life rescuing animals in need, but even he was shaken the day he met Barilla.
“I’ve rescued dogs since I was a kid, and I’ve seen a lot of heartbreaking cases,” Eduardo said. “But I’d never seen a dog in such terrible condition.”
Barilla had been starving for so long that she was nothing but skin and bones. Her body was on the verge of shutting down. When she arrived at the rescue center, she could barely move — only able to wag her tail and lift her head.
“She hadn’t had food or water for a very long time,” Eduardo told the Daily Mail. “When she came to us, she was barely alive.”
She weighed just 7.5 kilos (around 16.5 pounds), far below what a healthy dog her size should weigh. Her chances of survival were slim — but Eduardo refused to give up on her.
The road to recovery was slow and challenging. Barilla had to be carefully monitored and gradually reintroduced to food and water. At first, she couldn’t even stand on her own.
“Because of her severe malnutrition, she could hardly move,” Eduardo said. “We had to help her every step of the way.”
But with round-the-clock care and love from the rescue team, Barilla slowly began to heal. Day by day, she grew stronger, both physically and emotionally. And with each passing week, her spirit began to shine through.
“The vet told us most dogs wouldn’t have survived what she went through,” Eduardo said. “But she fought. And now, we’re inseparable.”
Eduardo had known from the very beginning that Barilla was special. On the day she arrived, he told his team that one day, he’d bring her home — and he kept that promise.
Today, Barilla is happy, healthy, and full of life. She lives with Eduardo, his wife, their daughters, and five other dogs — all of whom welcomed her with open paws.
For Barilla, the dark days are behind her. Ahead of her lies nothing but love, safety, and belly rubs.
“It was love at first sight,” Eduardo said. “I couldn’t let her go.”
Barilla’s story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when we choose compassion — and when someone decides that no animal is too far gone to save.
