In a heartbreaking discovery, a baby was found severely malnourished but alive after spending several days alone in a Phoenix apartment following the death of their mother.

According to Phoenix police, the infant had been alone for an unknown number of days before a concerned neighbor—who hadn’t seen or heard from the mother—called authorities to check in.

Bodycam footage captured the moment officers entered the apartment. “The baby’s here, dude. And the baby’s still alive,” one officer is heard saying.

Thankfully, the child was rushed to the hospital and is now expected to make a full recovery. Police say the neighbor’s alertness likely saved the baby’s life.
