Brooke Mueller: “I’m a Stage 4 Addict—Relapse Is Inevitable”

Brooke Mueller openly admits she’s a “stage 4” drug addict, saying it’s only a matter of time before she relapses again.

In a candid interview with People, Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife shares her ongoing battle with substance abuse, describing a relentless cycle of sobriety and relapse.

“When you’re at stage four, it means you’re stuck in a pattern where relapse is inevitable,” Brooke explains. “No matter how well you do or how many years you stay sober, it’s just a matter of time.”

She says she’s choosing to be honest about her struggles because sugarcoating the truth would only be lying to herself.

Brooke admits she often convinces herself she needs prescription medication—only to go through an entire bottle within 36 hours.

When she needs help, Charlie is always the first person she calls. She also acknowledges that he has managed to resist certain vices better than she has.

As for their two children, Brooke says they’re doing well, though they’ve endured a lot. “The sad reality is, they’ve gotten used to it—Mommy is going to relapse again one day.”
