6-Year-Old Boy Drowns at Belle Isle Family Gathering
A heartbreaking accident unfolded Saturday evening at Belle Isle when a 6-year-old autistic boy drowned after wandering away during a family reunion.
The child disappeared from a bounce house near Shelter #2 by the river. When family members couldn’t find him, they called 911, reporting his autism.
Roughly 30 minutes later, he was found in the water by another child and an adult. First responders began CPR and used an AED. Despite being rushed to the hospital with emergency crews, the boy was pronounced dead upon arrival.
