Eric Dane Reveals ALS Diagnosis, Says He’ll Keep Working on “Euphoria”

Actor Eric Dane has revealed that he’s been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive and potentially life-altering neurological condition also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy star shared, “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

Despite the diagnosis, Dane says he’s not stepping away from Hollywood anytime soon. He confirmed he’ll be returning to set next week to begin filming the upcoming season of HBO’s Euphoria, which is scheduled to start production on Monday.

The actor’s acknowledgment of his family comes at a meaningful time—his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, recently filed a request to dismiss the divorce petition she originally submitted back in February 2018 after 14 years of marriage.

ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control over time. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is currently no known cure for the disease.
