Dennis Avner, known as Stalking Cat, dedicated his life to transforming into the tiger he felt he was inside. For him, it wasn’t about attention—it was spiritual.
A Navy veteran from Michigan, Dennis was drawn to Native American beliefs and animal spirits. He believed identity could go beyond the human form. Over time, he altered his body with tattoos, sharpened ears, and feline facial features to reflect his inner self.
Many saw him as strange, but to those who knew him, he was gentle, thoughtful, and deeply committed to being true to himself. He found community among artists and the furry subculture, where self-expression was celebrated.
In 2012, Dennis died by suicide at 54. Though misunderstood by many, his story is a lasting symbol of the courage it takes to live authentically—even when the world doesn’t understand.
