Pippa Scott, the beloved redheaded actress known for her standout role as Lucy in The Searchers opposite John Wayne, has died peacefully at the age of 90 due to congestive heart failure.
Scott’s long and varied career included memorable appearances in Auntie Mame, Cold Turkey, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Columbo. Born into a showbiz family—her father, Allan Scott, was a prominent screenwriter, and her uncle was blacklisted during the Red Scare—Pippa was drawn to acting from an early age.
Beyond the screen, she devoted much of her later life to human rights. She founded the International Monitor Institute, which supported the prosecution of war crimes, and also worked on documentaries that spotlighted global injustices.
Though she largely stepped away from acting in the late 1970s, she continued to take occasional roles throughout the years. She is survived by her daughters and grandchildren.
Pippa Scott will be remembered not just for her talent, but for her compassion and commitment to justice.
