From Storm Drain to Snuggle Queen: Lula’s Rescue Story
Originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site.
For several days, we kept hearing a faint little meow coming from the storm drain right outside our apartment building. Even our two 16-year-old cats would run to the door every time the crying started—they knew something (or someone) was out there.
It took a few days of trying, but we finally managed to get the kitten out. We named her Lula, and while it was a bit of an adjustment at first, welcoming her into our family was absolutely worth it.
Lula’s voice is one-of-a-kind—raspy and a little rough—probably because she cried so much while trapped in the drain. In fact, she didn’t have a voice at all for the first few months. But don’t let that fool you—she’s got a huge personality and is hands-down the best cuddler around.
When we rescued Lula, she was about 8 weeks old. Now she’s 9 months, and every day with her has been full of laughter, love, and adorable chaos. She truly came into our lives at the perfect time.
Lula has a deep obsession with toy mice. And by obsession, we mean: she puts them in our shoes, plays fetch, dunks them in her water bowl like she’s trying to drown them, and eventually shreds them to pieces. She’s wild—in the best way.
