His days of feeling unloved are finally behind him.
Late last month in the town of Trstenik, Serbia, a heartbreaking scene stopped Vesna Vukojevic in her tracks.
Outside a local bakery, she spotted a lonely stray dog, clearly desperate for affection. With no one to comfort him, the dog had found a bittersweet substitute for human touch — a mechanical statue with a moving arm.
He stood close to it, letting the robotic hand gently pat his head, as if pretending it was the real thing:
Vesna captured the moment on video and shared it online. It quickly went viral, breaking hearts around the world.
“That just broke me,” one commenter wrote.
“Poor thing just wants love,” said another.
Among those deeply moved was animal lover Nina Savić. She couldn’t stop thinking about the dog — so with help from friends, she drove over 200 miles to rescue him and bring him to her home.
Now named Hogar the Horrible — a funny nickname that belies his sweet nature — the once-heartbroken pup is slowly learning what real love feels like.
At first, Hogar wasn’t quite sure how to accept affection. But little by little, he began to open up.
“He’s wonderful,” said fellow rescuer Maja Pinter. “He loves being cuddled. He just places his head in the hands of everyone he meets.”
Savić, who lives in Belgrade, is now hoping to find Hogar a forever family — though she admits she’d be more than happy to keep him herself.
“Everyone falls in love with him,” Pinter added. “He has a way of stealing hearts.”
From being ignored on the streets to being surrounded by love, one thing’s certain — Hogar will never go without a warm touch or a kind heart again.
