Teddi Mellencamp Responds to Heartbreaking Comments About Her Cancer Diagnosis
As Teddi Mellencamp hits a major milestone in her cancer journey, her estranged husband is also opening up about where their relationship stands.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum is focusing on staying positive—and she’s asking others to do the same.
Teddi recently responded to a difficult Instagram comment that referenced her stage 4 cancer diagnosis and speculated about her chances of survival.
“This is so heartbreaking,” the commenter wrote. “Typically, stage four cancer is terminal, especially with metastasis. Praying that Teddi heals and is an outlier.”
Teddi reposted the comment to her Instagram Stories on April 3, along with a heartfelt message about how those words affected her.
“These kinds of comments make me really sad,” she wrote. “I know people mean well, but it’s heartbreaking for me to read. Of course I know the odds—but I truly believe with all my heart that I’m going to beat this and be there to watch my kids graduate.”
Teddi shares three children—Slate (12), Cruz (10), and Dove (5)—with her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave.
She also took a lighthearted moment to show her signature humor, joking that she’ll be around for years to “vent on the pod and have everyone get mad at me,” and to “annoy my siblings by reminding everyone I’m the favorite.”
Later that same day, the 43-year-old podcast host reached a huge milestone: she completed her final round of radiation.
She shared the special moment on Instagram Stories, ringing the traditional bell in the cancer ward. Her caption read, “Ringing the bell can signify a major phase of treatment — today was my last day of radiation. Five more rounds of immunotherapy to go. Love you all for the kind messages.”
Earlier that morning, she posted a video showing off her yellow T-shirt that read, “I’m a ray of f–king sunshine,” adding, “Today’s a pretty big day. It’s supposed to be my last day of radiation—even though it was supposed to be last week, but they found those pesky four more tumors.”
Teddi first revealed back in February that she was undergoing surgery for multiple brain tumors. In late March, doctors discovered four additional tumors.
Before her diagnosis, Teddi and Edwin were planning to divorce. But for now, that’s been put on hold as they focus on her health.
On the April 3 episode of The Eds podcast, Edwin opened up about how her diagnosis has impacted their relationship.
“People think that’s hard, but for me, that’s just what I do,” the 47-year-old said. “I’ll always love Teddi—she’s been a big part of my life. I like taking care of people, that’s just who I am. So there was never a question.”
He emphasized that helping her feel strong and supported has been his top priority.
“I think a big part of getting through something like this is feeling confident, knowing you’re not alone,” he shared. “Her friends and family have really stepped up. And that’s helped me too.”
As for their relationship, Edwin made it clear that her health comes first.
“Right now, it’s about getting her better,” he said. “Everything else—we’ll figure that out later. The focus is on taking care of her and helping her get back to normal as fast as possible.”
