It’s been her summer home two years in a row 😂
One evening last year, Sita Hood got an unexpected visitor on her front porch—a little green toad. And this bold amphibian didn’t waste any time making herself at home.
Hood could’ve easily shooed the toad away. Instead, she offered up one of her running shoes—and the toad gladly accepted.
That first night must’ve been cozy because the toad stuck around. Every evening after sunset, she’d come out and snack on bugs hanging around the porch lights.
Before long, she became a regular. Hood even gave her a name: Jabba the Toad.
“I started leaving the porch light on just to attract bugs for Jabba,” Hood told The Dodo.
When Jabba wasn’t eating or hopping about, she always returned to her favorite resting spot—Hood’s old running shoe.
Sure, it meant Hood couldn’t wear that pair anymore, but she didn’t mind.
“Giving up a shoe wasn’t a big deal,” she said. “If it gave her some comfort or shelter, why not?”
Clearly, Jabba appreciated the hospitality—and she didn’t forget it.
As summer came to an end, Hood watched Jabba hop off into the nearby woods, likely to hibernate for the winter. With Jabba gone, Hood got her shoe back—for a little while.
But when spring rolled around, so did Jabba.
“One morning, there she was, right back in my shoe,” Hood said.
Her second summer on the porch went much like the first—except for one small hiccup.
“A well-meaning friend picked up my shoes and moved Jabba into the flower bed,” Hood said. “I put the shoes back out, and sure enough, Jabba was back that night.”
To avoid any future mix-ups, Hood even put up a sign above the shoes, just in case anyone tried to ‘evict’ her again.
Eventually, summer ended, and Jabba disappeared once more.
Hood isn’t sure if she’ll return next year, but either way, she cherishes the unexpected bond they shared.
“I never thought I’d become friends with a toad, but I’m so thankful I did,” Hood said. “We’re all connected in this big web of life—and when things are good, we show up for each other.”
