Trump’s 22-Foot Gold Statue Unveiled at Miami Golf Club — The Full Story

A towering golden statue of President Donald Trump was unveiled this week at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida, drawing immediate attention for its scale, its imagery, and the unusual financial journey that preceded its installation.
The statue stands 22 feet tall and depicts the president raising his fist — a pose drawn from the dramatic moment in July 2024 when Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. That image, widely circulated in the days and weeks after the shooting, became one of the defining photographs of the 2024 presidential campaign.

How the Statue Came to Be
The project was commissioned and funded primarily by cryptocurrency investors, according to reports, with more than 6,000 individual donors also contributing to the effort.
The man who actually built the statue, sculptor Alan Cottrill, has confirmed that the commission was agreed upon at a price of $300,000. However, Cottrill said the payment process was slow — describing the investors behind the project as taking their time to settle the bill. Rather than deliver the finished work before receiving full payment, Cottrill kept the statue stored in a warehouse until the financial terms were met.
Once payment was completed, the statue was transported to Trump National Doral, the president’s Miami golf resort, where it was installed and unveiled at a ceremony attended by roughly a dozen guests.

The Ceremony
The dedication event was led by Pastor Mark Burns, a prominent supporter of the president and a member of the Pastors for Trump organization. Burns served as the primary point of contact between the Trump camp and those organizing the statue project, a role he described with evident pride.
In a post on X following the event, Burns called it an “unforgettable moment” and moved quickly to address a comparison that he clearly anticipated.
“Let me be clear: this is not a golden calf. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. This statue is a celebration of life,” Burns wrote. The reference to a golden calf — the idol condemned in the Bible’s Book of Exodus — was a preemptive response to critics who had drawn that parallel online in the days before the unveiling.
Burns went on to describe the statue’s intended meaning in expansive terms, calling it a symbol of resilience, freedom, patriotism, and strength. He also framed it in explicitly religious language, saying the statue “stands as a reminder of the hand of God and His protection over President Trump’s life” — a reference to the 2024 assassination attempt that the statue’s pose commemorates.
“Time and time again, when his life was threatened, God’s mercy prevailed,” Burns wrote. “Today was not just a ribbon cutting. It was the public display of a powerful movement that has spread across America and around the world.”
Burns also thanked a list of individuals by name — including Dustin Stockton, Brock Pierce, Hershey Friedman, and others — as well as the more than 6,000 supporters who donated to the project. He extended particular thanks to the staff at Trump National Doral for their hospitality during the event.

Trump Calls In
President Trump did not attend the ceremony in person but participated by phone. Pastor Burns held a phone up to the microphone so that Trump’s voice could be heard by those gathered at the event.
Trump thanked Burns directly, describing him as a longtime supporter and “a good pastor” and “a good man.” He added, with characteristic humor, that Burns had been with him “from the beginning, right from the beginning, maybe about two days later.”
Trump also addressed the crowd more broadly, saying of the statue: “I want to thank everybody there. I know it was done from love.”

Reaction and Context
The statue’s unveiling prompted immediate and divided reactions across social media, mirroring the broader polarization that defines public response to almost anything connected to the president.
Supporters celebrated the statue as a tribute to a president they see as having survived extraordinary threats and delivered on promises to his base. Critics pointed to both the imagery — a golden statue of a living political figure installed at his own property — and the religious framing of the ceremony as emblematic of what they describe as the cult-of-personality dimension of Trump’s political movement.
The golden calf comparison, which Burns explicitly preempted in his remarks, circulated widely online in the days preceding the event and resurfaced with renewed force once images of the completed statue became public.
The statue itself is not the first Trump-themed monument to draw controversy. Trump merchandise, imagery, and commemorative objects have been a consistent feature of his political brand across both his presidential campaigns and his time in office.

Why This Story Matters
The unveiling of the statue is significant for several reasons beyond its visual spectacle.
It reflects the depth and financial commitment of a donor base willing to collectively fund a $300,000 monument to a sitting president — at his own private property. It illustrates the continued blurring of political devotion and religious language in a segment of Trump’s coalition, with the ceremony framed explicitly as a spiritual event rather than a purely political one.
And it raises questions — familiar in the Trump era — about the nature of political symbolism, the appropriate boundaries between a president’s private business interests and his public persona, and what it means when a sitting head of state is the subject of the kind of monumental commemoration usually reserved for historical figures viewed from a distance of decades or centuries.
For the millions of Americans who will see photographs of the statue in the coming days, it will serve as a kind of Rorschach test — what they see in it will reveal at least as much about them as it does about its subject.
